Measuring Guide – BestBlinds

How to Measure for Your New Blinds.

Measuring for your new blinds is really simple and straightforward.

We recommend that you use a steel tape measure for accuracy (cloth ones tend to stretch) and have a pencil and paper handy. Remember that the only real difference between a recess or an exact fitting is that if you specify recess fitting we will make the appropriate adjustments to the sizes to ensure a perfect fit.

For Magnetic screens, please visit the Magnetic screen page and you will find instructions under the Measuring Guide Tab

Inside Recess

When fitting your blind inside the window recess, follow this measuring guide for a perfect fit without the need for adjustments.

  1. Ensure Unobstructed Recess: Check that the window recess is unobstructed, allowing the blind to hang freely when fully extended. Watch out for protruding window handles and tiles.
  2. Take Accurate Measurements: Measure the width from point A to point B and the drop from point C to point D (refer to the diagram on the right). To account for slight size variations, take measurements in multiple places and note down the smallest measurements to the nearest millimeter.

Rest assured, we will craft your blind to perfectly fit into the recess without the need for adjustments, ensuring a seamless and hassle-free installation.

Outside Exact Fit

When fitting your blind on the outside of the window recess, follow this measuring guide to ensure a precise fit for your blinds.

  1. Decide on Overlap: Determine how much you want the blind to overlap on all sides. For optimal results, we recommend a minimum overlap of at least 50mm on each side in most cases.
  2. Measure Width and Drop: Carefully measure the width from point E to point F (see the diagram on your right) and the drop from point G to point H. Note down the smallest measurements to the nearest millimeter.
  3. Account for Fabric Size: Keep in mind that on roller blinds, the fabric will be approximately 3.5cm less than the overall width. Ensure you account for this when taking measurements.
  4. Precision is Key: Rest assured, we will craft your blind to precisely match the sizes you provide. If you are measuring an existing blind, that’s fine, but be cautious with roller blinds. The fabric on roller blinds is always about 35mm less than the “true” blind size (the size from bracket to bracket). Avoid measuring only the fabric on roller blinds, as this may result in a blind that is too narrow for your window.

By following these guidelines, you can confidently order your custom-made blinds, perfectly tailored to fit the outside of your window recess. Experience a seamless installation and enhance the aesthetics of your space with our exquisite blinds.
